4 Day West Coast Flowers

After the spring rains the West Coast explodes into blossom as wild flowers bloom. This is one of the great natural sites of the country and well worth a visit.

Day 1

Drive to a Private Nature Reserve - approximately 800 Ha in size and lays some 4km from the sea, has both Karoo-oid and Sand plain fynbos vegetation and is home to the most incredible floral diversity. Here we enjoy a walk through the wildflowers and coffee at the conservation centre on the premises, which houses a herbarium and artists gallery. Light traditional lunch enjoyed on the reserve
Next stop is near Langebaan where we visit the West Coast National Park and in particular the Postberg Flower/Game Reserve, which opens only for flowering season and offers spectacular floral displays and also game sightings. Langebaan is also known for its whale watching (June to October).

Day 2

After breakfast we depart for Clanwilliam. This scenic town, with its breathtaking natural beauty and unique rock formations, is one of the ten oldest towns in the country. Here we visit the Ramskop Nature Reserve, were we take a walk on the laid-out paths through the garden, which offer a beautiful view over the Cederberg Mountains and Clanwilliam Dam. The Wild Flower Garden contains a variety of more than 350 species of cultivated wild flowers.
We also visit an organic Rooibos plantation – see how our unique tea is cultivated and processed and also go on a spring flower tour with an expert of the regions vegetation – Sandveld and Cederberg fynbos. Here we enjoy a unique dinner prepared on the farm and enjoyed in their ‘outdoor restaurant’!

Day 3

Following breakfast we travel to Vanrhynsdorp where we have the opportunity to visit the well-known succulent nursery. Also see the Knersvlakte and the awesome Vanrhyns Pass as we drive to Nieuwoudtville, bulb capital of the world. Here we see a large variety of flora, and enjoy a guided tour by a local botanical expert. The spring flowers include many rare bulbs unique to the area and scientists from all over the world visit this reserve.

Day 4

On our way back to Cape Town the tour deviates to the town known as the flower of the West Coast – Darling. The town's wild flower splendour is undoubtedly its biggest attraction. A wide range of bulbous plants and other annuals make up its floral wealth. In spring, more than 1000 species of flowering plants emerge, this astounding diversity makes the region unique.
Here we will visit renowned satirist Pieter Dirk Uys’ ‘Evita se Perron’, a cabaret style theatre on the railway station platform, which is definitely worth a visit.
End the experience by enjoying a casual stroll through the “veld” in some of the beautiful private reserves and be introduced to the different flowers.
Tour Ends in Cape Town
