The Cape Peninsula:
The Cape Peninsula’s 170 km's of pristine beaches and rugged coastline is a nature lover’s paradise. There are numerous activities along this route but the main attractions include: The False Bay which boasts historic fishing villages, SA's first naval base of Simons Town and the Boulders Penguin Colony The highlight of today’s tour is the famous Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve “where the two oceans meet.” Forming part of the Cape Floral Kingdom (a world heritage site), this reserve is home to an array of bird and plant species. Antelope, baboon and other smaller mammals and reptile also inhabit the 7000ha Park. Its rugged coastline with scattered shipwrecks is a testimony to its previous name the “Cape of Storms” Here our knowledgeable reserve warden will take us on a specially arranged guided walk to tell us more about this unique biome. The tour then continues along the undeniably spectacular, Chapman’s peak drive into Hout Bay where a short scenic boat trip can be taken to Seal Island, a colony of 5000 Cape Fur Seals and hunting ground for the Cape’s great white shark. Following a quick coffee we drive along the scenic and exclusive coastline of the Atlantic Seaboard via Camps Bay and Llandudno into the city where our tour ends. |

Day 5
Scenic Whale Coast and Hot springs
The whale coast is an exhilarating stretch of coast where the mountains plunge straight into the ocean forming a coastline of steep cliffs, sandy coves, dangerous headlands and natural harbours. Enjoy great aerial views of the passing beaches and bays with the Helderberg Mountains as our backdrop. Visit Stoney point penguin colony one of two breeding penguin colonies in SA and only breeding ground of the African penguin in the world. The Harold Porter Botanical Gardens is our next stop where we take a gentle walk to Disa kloof with its dam and waterfall. The gardens are home to the rare Red Disa and the rare Protea Canary. We arrive in Hermanus, the self proclaimed, “world’s best land based whale watching site,” and it does indeed host impressive numbers during breeding and calving season. Take a whale safari and witness these gigantic yet graceful creatures up close, along with dolphin and other rich marine life. (Best between Jul to Nov) Alternatively the town of Gansbaai, which lies a few kilometers from Hermanus, is the world’s shark capital, where you can cage dive with great whites if you dare! We spend the night at a natural, hot water spring called Caledon. |

The reserve is an excellent whale watching site and experiences whales in higher concentrations. It also boasts large herds of game.
