This is a great route for those wishing to go ‘off the beaten track’ and explore a part of the mountain seldom seen. The initial ascent is through Cecilia plantation and we follow the path close to the stream, admiring the indigenous trees as the pines give way to fynbos (the indigenous vegetation). We stop to admire a clump of Silver Trees and if lucky spot a sunbird or two. The route descends to the spectacular Cecilia Waterfall – a great place to take a break - before we tackle the steeper section of the route, Cecilia Ridge. At the top of the ridge we are close to De Villiers dam and from here we look up to Klaasenskop, the highest point of the walk, just another half hours walk away. Here look out for a variety of interesting rock formations consisting of objects and animals. On top we admire the panoramic views south over the Cape Peninsula, east to False Bay and the Hottentots Holland Mountains and directly below, Orange Kloof and the picturesque village of Hout Bay. We spend time exploring this unique area. Walk through the cracks in the rocks and wonder at the yellow wood trees growing deep within them. The route down is an easy stroll along the jeep track before we turn off down ‘pine path’ and back to our start point. This walk takes about 4½ |
