The whale coast is an exhilarating stretch of coast where the mountains plunge straight into the ocean forming a coastline of steep cliffs, sandy coves, dangerous headlands and natural harbours. Enjoy great aerial views of the passing beaches and bays with the Helderberg Mountains as our backdrop. Visit Stoney point penguin colony one of two breeding penguin colonies in SA and only breeding ground of the African penguin in the world. The Harold Porter Botanical Gardens is our next stop where we take a gentle walk to Disa kloof with its dam and waterfall. The gardens are home to the rare red Disa and rare Protea canary. We arrive in Hermanus, the self proclaimed, “world’s best land based whale watching site,” and does indeed host impressive numbers during breeding and calving season. |
