Please note that this half-day tour can be converted into full-day tour with a visit to Robben Island which lasts 3hrs. No visit to Cape Town is complete without a glimpse of our cultural and township life. The tour follows a timeline, where we will show you the now colourful, former slave quarter of Cape Town, called the Bo-Kaap. The area has been recognized as a world heritage sight and is historically rich, with the architecture to match. We then travel to the former District 6, as well as to the District 6 museum, which bears witness to the terrible effects, Apartheid has had on its 60 000 residents who were forcibly removed in the 1960’s. The next stop, is the oldest “township” in Cape Town called Langa where despite difficult circumstances and poor living conditions, you will experience the vibrancy and spirit of the South African people. You will get to inter-act with community members while on a guided walk by a local resident. Other interesting attractions include visiting a local shebeen (pub), visiting a community development project, popping in at the local witchdoctor for some traditional healing and having a traditional African meal at a local restaurant. On our way back to Cape Town we drive through areas formerly allocated for “coloureds” called Bonteheuwel. |
